Antiquing in Selma, NC

Hello! How are you this Tuesday? Hope your Monday was good to you! We had rain here yesterday so it was dreary out which tends to put a bit of a damper on my spirits. I can get lazy when the sun is not here to energize me. How about you? Today is much the same, but I can't afford another lazy day so I've turned on all the bright lights in my office and I'm trying to make believe it's a lovely sunny day!

We caught mouse #2 last night! If you didn't stop by yesterday, we discovered we have some visitors in the attic and got a humane mouse trap to catch and relocate them in a nearby field. Scroll down to yesterday's post if you would like to see a picture of the little critter...he's too cute! So, last night we caught and released one of mouse's friends or girl friend??? I didn't hear anymore scampering in the attic after that so maybe that's it? We'll set the trap out again tonight and see what happens.

Yesterday I also said that I would show you the vintage treasures I collected in Selma on Sunday. What a fun day it was. Temperatures finally reached 50 degrees! Compared to the cold weather we've been having, that was somewhat of a heatwave! ;)

Here's one of my favorite finds that I picked up for $12 minus 15% at His 'n Hers Antiques. I love these three! Each time I look at them they make me smile and they will remind me of my two friends and our  great day in Selma!

I love old Ball jars and have a little collection going on. They are quite inexpensive and make a great accent around the house. I've had this ball jar for a while, but found these old wooden spools to fill it. I think it'll look great in my craft room.

Another His 'n Hers find is this gorgeous transferware platter! Click on photo to enlarge and see the beautiful design details. This treasure was my most expensive find of the day at $32, but I did receive a 15% discount! Other than my turkey platter and some aluminum and plastic trays, I don't have any nice serving pieces so this will come in handy!

These darling transferware berry bowls were also found at His 'n Hers! Only $2.50 each, minus 15%! Can't beat that! I love the strawberry pattern!

I sure made out at His 'n Hers! This vanity box looks like milk glass, but its a little more ivory in color. It's a depression era piece that I don't know a lot about. I love to research the items I find and will see what I can learn about it. At only $12, minus another 15%, I couldn't go wrong. It's so feminine and pretty and looks lovely on my dresser! That's worth the price right there!

Also located in Selma is the TMW Antique Mall where I found some fun treasures. I brought home a darling Lefton bunny figurine that I already packed away with the Easter/Spring decor. I got a beautiful linen table runner that I have in the laundry.

Isn't this platter adorable? It's smaller than the first one I showed you. Sweet petite thing! Old too with lots of crazing (cracks in the finish). So pretty and feminine with it's scalloped edges and faux stitched border. Love the handles too!

Look at the beautiful pattern! And all those cracks! Very shabby chic! I've already forgotten how much I paid for this piece. It was less than the other tray and I got 20% off. I can't wait until our china cabinet arrives to see how all my new china looks in it!

Here's a fun idea I recently saw using rusty vintage metal cheese graters as a memo board! Cute idea, huh? Arrange a few of these graters in different sizes, add some magnets and you are ready to hang a grocery list, handmade tag or card, or how about a message to the kids. Fun! I found this grater for $5. I hope to find a couple more to complete my unique memo board.

Our next stop was Precious Memories Antiques and Collectibles. What a fun place this is with three stores and floors! I got this adorable vintage crochet pot holder there for $6. I've seen a lot of these and finally decided to get one. I think a few of them would look great as a display on the kitchen counter! I can picture a small stack in a glass jar.

I added this ceramic insulator to my collection. I have two others in clear and a teal blue glass, but I haven't seen one in ceramic and its in great shape! It was half off at $5!

Does this milk glass tray look familiar? I bought a similar one with a different pattern around the edge a few months ago and I sometimes use it to photograph my cards on. This one was $12 and I thought it would look lovely displayed with the other. Milk glass is fun and affordable to collect. There are lots of pieces out there to choose from. I enjoy searching for the more rare pieces. This tray for instance is harder to find because the delicate edging breaks easier than solid pieces.

This sweet transferware bowl was just $1.75! Unbeatable price! And such a gorgeous pattern, don't you think? I'd like to start collecting this pattern and see if I can gather 8-12 place settings! I've been looking at vintage dishes for some time...all the different patterns, prices, availability, etc. I really like another patterned called 'Charlotte' but it's difficult to find and therefore more expensive. This pattern, which I can't recall the name of off the top of my head, is easier to find and priced reasonably! The likely hood of finding enough is pretty good!

Here's a close up of the pattern. So pretty with it's touches of color.

I thought I'd save one of the best for last...this pretty hummingbird print. Doesn't it look lovely on my mantel? Can you believe it was just $8.50?!?! Yep, so sweet and a nice size. I believe it's about  12" x 14".

Here are my partners in crime, Audrey and her mom. We've had the best time this winter shopping for treasures together! We always get an early start, pack a lunch and browse until closing time! Audrey lives close by so we always get to go on junk hunts together, but her mom lives in California so this was the first time we've made it a threesome. We'll probably go on more outings the next time mom is in town!

Well, I hope you've enjoyed my show and tell and can get out there and seek for some fun thing to spruce up your nest ! Enjoy! :) Kathy

What a fun time you 3 must have had! Isn't it great to share interests with friends and enjoy antiquing together? I have a sweet collection of milk glass that belonged to my hubby's grandmother that I cherish. Lately, when we flea or antique, I am looking for old cake plates, covered cheese plates and blue ball jars. My collection is growing and but it's the thrill of the hunt that I'm addicted to!

Boy, did we ever make out that day, huh? Such fun! I love all the treasures we both found. Think we were both really lucky that day. There were almost too many things to choose from. :)
I've researched a few of my new pieces, and from the markings on the backs, have been able to pinpoint some dates. Two of my ironstone platters are from 1906, and one is 1904....and that lovely brown transferware sugar?? 1888!
Wowzers, huh?

You found some really beautiful items! I love the owls, they are so cute. Love plates and milk glass so you made me happy showing those. I must say my favorite are the red berry bowls...so cute. I like that pattern of china also (I don't know the name either...lol). Thanks for joining Junkin Finds Friday! hugs, Linda

What great things you found. Cute owls. I am not familiar with Selma NC. We live near Charlotte NC, and there are some great antique places here as well. Have a great day.
