Liberty Antiques Festival

In yesterday's post, I mentioned the semi-annual Liberty Antiques Festival that I attended last weekend where approximately 375 vendors from over 20 states set up tents in a large open field and sell their vintage goods. It's a lot of fun and takes the entire day to take it all in. It's junk hunting at it's best!

And here we are! Our dogs were barking at the end of this day! Wasn't the festival amazing? I would have brought a U-Haul if I could have afforded more of the goods we saw!

Vintage Craft Storage

Last weekend my BFF and I attended the semi-annual Liberty Antiques Festival where about 375 vendors from over 20 states arrive with amazing vintage wares to sell. It's great fun and takes the entire day to take it all in. Junk hunting is a favorite activity of mine and I always look forward to finding the perfect containers for my crafty supplies.

This old basket, it's perfect for my baker's twine. And as you can see, there's plenty of room for more colors! ;)

Here's just one Ball jar o' Buttons. Those are vintage mother of pearl buttons I picked up once upon a time at our local flea market.

I bought this little jam jar of jute this weekend. Cute, huh?

Do you collect milk glass? My Doodlebug stamp pads fit perfectly in this Fire King planter.

These milk glass pieces reside on my desk. The little bowl holds my bits and pieces of trash, keeping my desk neat and tidy.

I go nuts over old wood boxes! This one is my Copic keeper.

This little wooden box used to contain cheese. Can you imagine buying cheese in wood boxes? This box was converted into a caddy by attaching an old leather strap to the center. Now it holds my mists, Glossy Accents and Liquid Pearls.

Here's another cheese box that was made into a drawer to store hardware. The label reads, "Knobs & Handles."

This wood 'box' is actually a sewing cabinet drawer. I love the beautiful finish and rounded corners!

Here's yet another vintage box, this one an old card catalog file. I store my thin metal dies and dry embossing folders in this one.

More wood boxes! From right to left, a small tool caddy and a green divided box with handles to hold a bunch of my cards in. Another cheese box turned hardware store display. See the dark wood box in the back? That's my latest find from the weekend...it was just $2 and it's full of old wooden spools that I got for .50 cents a piece!

Autumn

Happy to have you drop in! How was your weekend? Did you partake in any fall activities? This weekend my boys and I went to our favorite pumpkin patch, Hill Ridge Farms. It's a wonderful, family friendly, activity packed day at the farm. There is a train, long tunnel slide, pony rides, yummy eats and a hay ride through the woods. And that's just the start of it! Each year, they add something new! Now there's a giant corn crib, an old fashioned fort with tee pee, a big hay jump house, face painting and water duck races! It's quite a place to spend an afternoon!

Today I would normally be getting back to work after a full and fun weekend, but my husband and I are taking a day off, just the two of us, to go to the NC State Fair. This is our third year of doing this! We get to be like a couple of kids walking the fair hand-in-hand doing and seeing whatever we please. Ah...I still love to go on dates with my guy after 18 years of marriage!

Okay, enough with the family update. How about a couple crafty shares? I have two hybrid pages that I created from kits just released last week at Two Peas in a Bucket.

This first page entitled 'Autumn' is created with 'October Past' from a new designer Hazel Olive Designs. I love the rich colors of the papers included in the kit so I used several and gave them all punched boarders.

My photo is of a pumpkin display at my favorite Garden Supply center and gift shop in Cary.  If you happened to visit my blog when I was sharing some of my Halloween decorations, this was the store I got many of our little spiders and spooky things from.

I went a little crazy with the stitching! But it's so worth it! I really love the look of the stitched title!

I did a bit of stitching on this page too. I used another awesome kit 'Sincerely' by Polka Dot Pixels for this page.

All the papers and accents in this grouping (except for the green postage stamp) are from the kit!

The photo, a suitcase full of vintage post cards, is perfect for this kit! It's a picture my friend took while we were visiting the Liberty Antiques Festival a few weeks back.

Liberty Antiques Festival

How was your weekend? If you came by for a visit on Friday, I told you about my plans to attend the Liberty Antiques Festival. Well, it was awesome with over 400 vendors from 25 states! The festival had it all and then some! Anything you could image and more was there, including lots of yummy food! There was so many booths that my friend Audrey and I didn't get through it all! We gave it the old college try, but the record high temperature of 98 degrees slowed us down a bit!

As you can see, the tents were set up in a big field so in addition to the intense heat, it was very dusty too! But look at all the great antiques!

I owe Audrey big time for remembering to bring her camera, carrying it around, and shooting these great photos since I forgot mine!

Both Audrey and I agreed that Dad's Follies was our favorite booth! Have you ever seen anything like this? These are all chocolate molds! It's an extensive collection that included one of a kind pieces like the zeppelin in the lower left hand corner of the photo above. Be sure to visit there website if you are interested in seeing more or purchasing one of these amazing pieces.

This 4 foot tall Santa Claus chocolate mold is one of only three in the world! One is in a museum in Germany, another in a private collection and this one! I considered bringing the jolly old soul home, but I didn't have $40,000 on me!

In addition to chocolate molds, quite a selection of ice cream molds were available.

Meet Butch one of the owners who has a fantastic sense of humor and is quite passionate about the business. He spent a good deal of time teaching Audrey and I about chocolate molds. Before we left, we knew enough about these treasures to really appreciate what we looking at. We learned how these pieces were first manufactured and as time went on and new technology was developed how they evolved.

During our lesson, I couldn't help but wonder how Butch, a big Harley riding tough guy, finds himself in the chocolate mold business? "By default. My mother loved and collected chocolate molds." he told us. Then when I was examining a little turkey chocolate mold, his sister let us in on a little secret about Butch and the turkey mold I was admiring. "Butch actually likes to use that piece to make butter molds for Thanksgiving! He shows up for dinner on his bike with his turkey shaped butters!" she tells us! Can you imagine!?!?  LOL

Well, If I could have afforded it, or hadn't recently spent hundreds on a pair of ceramic elephants, I would have purchased this guy! I had to settle for a photo instead!

At lunch, we found a booth that was grilling cheeseburgers and serving french fries. Desert was some home made peach ice cream made in this John Deere machine! Oh it was delicious! And refreshing in the heat!

We found some lovely linens! I didn't get a picture, but I got a quilt from this booth. One that was hand stitched in a pinwheel design, lovely blues and prints on a white background. There were so many beautiful things and a lot of pretty aprons which I thought I'd try on. Looks like an apron from the I Love Lucy show, doesn't it?!?!
